The Far North Line Community Rail Partnership (FNLCRP) works to promote, protect and enhance Scotland’s iconic Far North Line, the most northerly passenger railway in the UK. Spanning from Fearn to Wick and Thurso, this scenic route links remote Highland communities across Easter Ross, Sutherland and Caithness. As an officially designated Community Rail Partnership, we collaborate with local residents, development trusts, tourism providers, small businesses, national transport groups, and public bodies to champion sustainable travel, support community wellbeing, and unlock economic potential throughout the region.
Our aim is to increase awareness and use of the Far North Line for both everyday travel and visitor experiences. We support improvements to station infrastructure, accessibility, integrated transport connections, and the promotion of active travel. From better signage and timetabling to community art projects and station adoption schemes, we work to ensure stations reflect the identity and aspirations of the communities they serve.
The FNLCRP also plays an important role in connecting people with opportunities—whether through promoting local attractions, encouraging low-carbon travel across the Highlands, or strengthening social inclusion in rural areas. We’re passionate about highlighting the value of public transport in tackling rural isolation, boosting the local economy, and attracting tourism in a way that respects the natural and cultural heritage of the north.
Whether you’re commuting to work, planning a car-free adventure through the Highlands, or looking to partner on a local transport initiative, FNLCRP is your link to a more connected, resilient, and sustainable future for the Far North. Together, we can ensure that the Far North Line remains a lifeline for Highland communities and a memorable journey for all who travel it.
